Among Fukuoka’s notable children’s songs is “Kamome no Suihei-san” (The Seagull Sailor) composed by KAWAMURA Koyo, who was born in Fukuchi Town (formerly Akaike Town) in Tagawa District. This cheerful melody captures children’s longing for adventures across the sea.

Fukuoka Prefecture is also home to the renowned poet KITAHARA Hakushuu born in Yanagawa City. Hakushuu wrote lyrics for numerous children’s songs that have become beloved classics across Japan. His birthplace has been preserved as the “KITAHARA Hakushuu Memorial Museum,” where visitors can explore his literary legacy while enjoying the scenic canals of Yanagawa. His works include “Karatachi no Hana” (Trifoliate Orange Blossoms) and “Aoi Me no Ningyo” (Blue-Eyed Doll), which reflect the charming landscapes and cultural heritage of his hometown.
